He was cruising through his chemical engineering career until some serious water worries dried up his interest. Be the change you want to see defines Ajani Jacobs’ experience. He swapped engineering titles for the sake for his country’s water woes. The land of wood and water like many other places across the globe has severe challenges with this precious resource. Ajani shares with us his desire for Jamaica to give the green light on grey water and other innovations.
Thanks to this water engineer we can get used to wastewater. Ajani helps us to better understand how utilizing wastewater can significantly reduce demand on existing water resources and increase availability for domestic and public use.
This interview contrasts his modesty with the magnitude of the impact he is about to make in the Caribbean water sector. Fresh off a completed Chevening Scholarship in the UK, he came away with more than just an enriching cultural experience. He’s already making waves in the water industry.
Ajani is the winner of the 2020 Global Water Partnership – Young Caribbean Water Entrepreneurship Shark Tank Competition. We were definitely wowed by his water project – “The Use of Constructed Farm Wetland in the Cockpit Country’s Martha Brae Watershed to Mitigate the Impacts of Climate Change.” He gives us the fascinating insights into his innovation. Listen and learn how designing an artificial farm wetland will address environment challenges such as reducing flooding as well as soil erosion and promote healthy ecosystems and watersheds in local communities.
